Summer Recap!

Summer is over and we are catching our breath again. Here are a few "non-camp" highlights of our Summer:

 

Katie went to Nova Scotia for a week at the end of June with Andrews family. Great timing as they jumped right into Day Camp when they got back. 

 Ken took me to Ruth's Chris for my Birthday.

Who'd a thought that Krispy Kreme made it to Canada?

We had no idea that one was so close.

Ken had heard, on the radio, that Krispy Kreme was celebrating their 77th birthday with a special offer. We thought it would be a special treat for the staff, and a fun family outing, to drive the hour and pick up a few dozen doughnuts for 77 cents a dozen. We got there at around 9:00 pm and soon discovered that lots of other people had heard of the great deal as well. We waited an hour in line but it was so worth it!

 

 

 

 

 

Katie gave Ken tickets to a Blue Jays Baseball game for Fathers Day. They were able to go an evening in July.

 

 

 

 

 

 

                                                                Katie was in her friend's wedding at the end of July. It was held right here at the Conference Centre so was fun for all of us!

Our summer was very wet and not so warm, but it was good. We are thankful for Carolyn our new cook who did a great job taking care of our food service needs. Pete and Holly were missed more than I can say, but we know the Lord has great plans for them in Arizona, as well. Once again our summer staff worked hard and we saw many blessings. Karl was here again as our staff chaplain. He was able to stay all the way through August so had a great impact on our staff as well as many guests. He got lots of great pictures too!
The Conference Centre celebrated its 80th anniversary on August 23rd  with an open house, dinner and  program. There were over 200 in attendance. A very busy day, especially coming right on the heals of our last Family Camp, but very enjoyable and so good to see so many who have invested so much into the ministry here at GBCC

Katie is off to school..................today! It is hard to believe that it is her last year.
We are anxious to get back into a routine again. Hoping the weather stays nice so we can enjoy some "Summer things"
...ride our bikes
...rent a canoe
...walk along the river
...sit outside Starbucks and enjoy a leisurely cup of coffee
...play some golf, (Ken got to play some during Family Camp in August so that was nice)
...weed the flower beds outside of our house.

We look forward to catching up with our loved ones as well!!!

The Morrishes have "Landed"

 

 

After a 14 months application process, our paperwork for our Permanent Residency came through.

 

We are now "Landed Immigrants"

 

We are still proudly American citizens, but can now rest easy as we continue to

 serve the Lord here in the foreign land of Canada!

Christmas in Colorado

 

It is still January so I think that I am still safe to share Christmas photos.

We had a wonderful Christmas with Lisa in Colorado.

 

 

 

 

After a busy day we got ready and went to a great Christmas Eve Service in Woodland Park.

We left on the 30th and decided to drive home all in one stretch so that we could spend one more day with Lisa. It was a long drive, but we made it fine and it was worth it to have that extra time together.

 

Lisa treated us to a cold but very beautiful Horse back ride.

Our Traveler is Home!!

 

We picked up Katie at the airport in Washington DC on December 8th.

A much anticipated event. We flew Lisa in for the occasion and the surprise was so sweet!

 

 

 

 

 

 

It was so fun to meet all of the girls that were with Katie in Thailand after hearing so much about them these last 4 months.

 

 

 

 

 

Jet lag? After a short nap and a shower we were off to Mt. Vernon and their Candle Light Christmas tour. The weather was a bit wet and cold, but a fun way to spend the evening.

We didn't make it inside the Capital building, but enjoyed the National Christmas tree and the beautiful Architecture.

 It was so fun to be together as a family. Tuesday afternoon we put Lisa on the Plane back to Colorado and we headed home.

 

 

 

 

 There are changes in the near future for the Morrish family as we welcome Mike Ko to the family.

Lisa and Mike will be married in March. We are Thankful that God has brought Mike into Lisa's life and we look forward to getting to know him better as they begin their life together.

Long overdue update

Summer is over and our life is slowly getting back to normal. The summer was very busy but I managed to get a few pictures to share.

 July 1 - Canada Day.. Our wonderful staff always wants us to feel at Home!!

 

 

 Katie was a Day Camp Counsellor again. It was so fun seeing her around camp, along with the other Day Camp staff, sharing the Love of Jesus to these kids.

 

It was wonderful to have Ken's Mother here for a week. She joined right in with camp life and the staff all enjoyed her. We appreciated her visit so much!



 Mom and Bill also came for a visit. I put Mom right to work....I wish that we would have kept track of the number of rolls she made in the week and a half that they were here. We figured it was well over 1000. Almost every afternoon she made a double or triple batch. We are still enjoying the fruits of her labor.

It was special for me to be able to work along side her again, in the kitchen. A memory that I will always cherish.

Bill was also a huge help as he kept busy with this and that. It was wonderful to have them.

 

 

 

 

  Our Katie is no longer a teenager! She turned 20 on August 7th. What a beautiful woman she has become! She left for Thailand on the 14th of August.....Having an amazing time!!

 

 

 Karl spent most of the summer with us. What a Blessing he was. His role was to be somewhat of a Staff Chaplain. The Kids all really responded to him as he led them in Bible Studies and joined in their activities. The kids gave him a going away party and it was neat to hear what they all had to say to him as they recalled some fun and some serious experiences of the summer. 

He also took lots and lots of pictures for our promotional materials.

Karl's treats for the summer were Hershey bars with Almonds and Movie Theatre Popcorn with jalapeños.

 

 

 

 

 

 Ken got to golf a couple of times in August during Family Camp.

We have been out to the golf course a couple of times since summer has been over.  

 

 

These young men came to us this fall from South Africa. They are with an organization called Global Challenge. They will have traveled around the world in almost a year serving where God leads. Sometimes they make arrangements ahead of time and sometimes they just wait for the Lord's leading. It is so neat to hear some of their experiences and adventures as they have been traveling, trusting God to "direct their path"  They were with us for 2 weeks and were a huge help in so many areas of camp. They even helped me in the kitchen! You can find out more about this organization HERE

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 We so enjoyed our visit with Jeff and Susie. They flew into Buffalo and rented a car for their 2 week road trip. We tagged along for the first few days, traveling to the 1000 Islands. It was such a treat. They made most of the arrangements so we just sat back and enjoyed it. After a busy summer it was so nice! The weather was great and the scenery beautiful!

 

 

 

 The famous Boldt Castle. I also got the Dressing recipe which originated here. And to think, all that time I thought that I knew how to make 1000 Island dressing. Let me know if you would like a copy of the recipe!

   

 

 

After saying good bye to Jeff and Susie, Ken and I headed home through upper State New York. It was absolutely beautiful. As often the case, the pictures do not do justice to the colors and beauty.

 

 

 

 

 

We were home for a few days and then got on the plane to Colorado. I had seen Lisa's camp in April when she moved there, so Ken was very happy to see her and where she now calls home.

 

It was nice to meet Mike and get to know him a bit. They took us to Breckenridge one day. Lisa had heard that there was a store there that sold the best cookies in the world. Well, of course we had to check it out and I would say, yes, they are very good.

Ken's Birthday - October 8th

 Lisa took us on a great horseback ride. It was such a beautiful day and so enjoyable to ride through the changing Aspens. No animal sightings though!

That evening Mike and Lisa took us to an Ethiopian restaurant for Ken's birthday. It was very good and very enjoyable. No silverware, you just use your hands!!!

 Happy Birthday Ken!!!!

 

 

 

 

We are back to work again, but feeling very well rested and ready for the rest of the year. Katie will be home in about 8 weeks. WOW has time flown. She is loving Thailand and the culture as well as the people. Lots of wonderful experiences.
